A Rare And Spectacular Italian Late 15th - Early 16th Century Walnut Sculpture
(703-73)

Possibly of the Warrior David, the immensely popular Old Testament figure. Its mannerist style exhibiting an elongation of the torso and neck and its missing arms that most likely held a shield and spear or sword. The exceptionally fine carving belying the artist’s great knowledge of not only armor but of the human muscular anatomy. The unusual headress, a panther or lion skin, representing great power. Italian, Possibly Florence, Circa 16th Century
